Actress Tracey Ross (no relation to the famous Ross Family) has made History as the single longest running African American actess on a soap opera at one time.
You might be thinking about Victoria Rowell, she has left and returned from The Young and The Restless twice in her tweleve years total on the show. And is currently off the show.
Anyways, Tracey Ross stars as Dr. Eve Russell on Passions which as since left NBC and now airs on Direct TV. She has been the only African American Actress in Daytime to consistantly have frontburner storylines all the nine years she has been on the soap

Here's the scoop

Victoria Rowell left due to backstage racism on the set of Young and The Restless. One of the white actresses Michelle Stanford Spit on her, when she learned that VR's character Drue would become her boss. MS also was jealous that the African American's had their own writer on the show so that their storylines were in told in culturally relevant ways. But VR asked to become a writer for the show and rejected her even though other shows have allowed white actors and actresses to write, direct, and act on their respective soaps all together. She and Kristoff Saint John who plays Neil Winters also fought the battle for racial diversity on the cover's of magazine's like Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly
